MP demands inquiry into Met tactics at demo

An MP who was involved in last month's G20 protests in London is to call for an investigation into whether the police used agents provocateurs to incite the crowds.

Liberal Democrat Tom Brake says he saw what he believed to be two plain-clothes police officers go through a police cordon after presenting their ID cards.

Brake, who along with hundreds of others was corralled behind police lines near Bank tube station in the City of London on the day of the protests, says he was informed by people in the crowd that the men had been seen to throw bottles at the police and had encouraged others to do the same shortly before they passed through the cordon.

Brake, a member of the influential home affairs select committee, will raise the allegations when he gives evidence before parliament's joint committee on human rights on Tuesday.

"When I was in the middle of the crowd, two people came over to me and said, 'There are people over there who we believe are policemen and who have been encouraging the crowd to throw things at the police,'" Brake said. But when the crowd became suspicious of the men and accused them of being police officers, the pair approached the police line and passed through after showing some form of identification.

Brake has produced a draft report of his experiences for the human rights committee, having received written statements from people in the crowd. These include Tony Amos, a photographer who was standing with protesters in the Royal Exchange between 5pm and 6pm. "He [one of the alleged officers] was egging protesters on. It was very noticeable," Amos said. "Then suddenly a protester seemed to identify him as a policeman and turned on him. He legged it towards the police line, flashed some ID and they just let him through, no questions asked."

Amos added: "He was pretty much inciting the crowd. He could not be called an observer. I don't believe in conspiracy theories but this really struck me. Hopefully, a review of video evidence will clear this up."

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has received 256 complaints relating to the G20 protests. Of these, 121 have been made about the use of force by police officers, while 75 relate to police tactics. The IPCC said it had no record of complaints involving the use of police agents provocateurs. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "We would never deploy officers in this way or condone such behaviour."

The use of plain-clothes officers in crowd situations is considered a vital tactic for gathering evidence. It has been used effectively to combat football hooliganism in the UK and was employed during the May Day protests in 2001.

Brake said he intends to raise the allegations with the Met's commissioner, Sir Paul Stephenson, when he next appears before the home affairs select committee. "There is a logic having plain-clothes officers in the crowd, but no logic if the officers are actively encouraging violence, which would be a source of great concern," Brake said.

The MP said that given only a few people were allowed out of the corralled crowd for the five hours he was held inside it, there should be no problem in investigating the allegation by examining video footage.

WSWS **Flashback 6 November 2008**

In an extraordinary development, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the west Indian state of Maharashtra has arrested a retired Indian army major and a serving lieutenant colonel as part of its investigation of September 29 terrorist bombings—bombings the ATS now says were carried out by Hindu supremacists.

Bombs exploded in Malegaon, a city of about one million people in north-west Maharashtra, and in Modasa, a town to the north in the bordering state of Gujarat, within minutes of each other last Sept. 29. The Malegaon bombing killed 5 people, while a 15-year old died as a result of the Modasa bombing. The bombs also injured some one hundred people, many of them seriously.

On October 24, police arrested Pragya Singh Thakur, a 38 year-old former activist of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad—a student group allied with the Hindu supremacist BJP and RSS—and two associates, 36-year old Shivnarayan Gopal Singh Kalsangra and 42-year old Shyam Bhanwarlal Sahu. They have been accused, but not yet charged by the courts, with murder, attempt to murder, and voluntarily causing grievous hurt for their alleged role in the Sept. 29 bombings.

Pragya, who fancies herself a sadhvi or Hindu sage, is said to be the leader of the group.

Five days later the Maharashtra state ATS arrested retired army Major Ramesh Upadhyay and Sameer Kulkarni, a leading member of a small, fanatical Hindutva-ite organization, the Abhinav Bharat. The ATS also had Lt. Colonel Srikant Prasad Purohit brought to Mumbai from his army unit in Madya Pradesh for questioning. Yesterday, the police sought and obtained Defence Ministry permission to lay charges against Purohit.

These developments are all the more remarkable as the immediate response of the police and the corporate media to the Sept. 29 bombings was to blame them on Islamic terrorists--and this even though the bombs’ targets were clearly Muslims. The bombs exploded outside mosques around 9:30 PM on the eve of Eid, the popular celebration marking the end of Ramadan.

The ATS is now describing the bombings as part of a “larger conspiracy,” but has refused to elaborate.

WORDPRESS 27 November 2008

India is in something of a state of shock after learning from official sources that its first Hindu terror cell may have carried out a series of deadly bombings that were initially blamed on militant Muslims. The revelation is forcing the country to consider some difficult questions.

At least 10 people have been arrested in connection with several bomb blasts in the Muslim-dominated town of Malegaon in the western state of Maharashtra in September, which left six people dead. But reports suggest that police believe the cell may also have carried out a number of previous attacks, including last year’s notorious bombing of a cross-border train en route to Pakistan, which killed 68 people. Among the alleged members of the cell are a serving army officer and a Hindu monk.

Bomb attacks are not uncommon in India – there has been a flurry in recent months – but police usually blame them on Muslim extremists, often said to have links to militant groups based in either Pakistan or Bangladesh. As a result, the recent cracking of the alleged Hindu cell has forced India to face some difficult issues. A country that prides itself on purported religious and cultural toleration – an ambition that in reality often falls short – has been made to ask itself how this cell could operate for so long.
India’s military, which prides itself on its professionalism, has been forced to order an embarrassing inquiry.

The near-daily drip of revelations from police has also caused red faces for India’s main political opposition, the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), ahead of state polls and a general election scheduled for early next year. The BJP and its prime ministerial candidate, Lal Krishna Advani, have long accused the Congress Party-led government of being soft on terrorism that involved Muslims. However, the BJP has refused to call for a clampdown on Hindu groups, and last week Mr Advani even criticised the police over the way they questioned one of the alleged cell members, a woman called Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur.

The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, phoned his rival to ask him not to politicise the issue or the investigation. “There is a strong case so let the police do their job,” he told Mr Advani. While some commentators have expressed surprise about the discovery of the alleged cell, others have pointed out that there has been growing concern about the possible threat from Hindu extremists. In the summer, two members of a right-wing Hindu group were killed while putting together a bomb, and two other suspected members of the same group died in similar circumstances in 2006.

Meanwhile, senior right-wing leaders have made no secret of their wish that Hindus should form suicide squads to protect themselves against Muslim extremists. Bal Thackeray, leader of a group called the Shiv Sena, which has been responsible for communal and regional violence in Mumbai, wrote recently in the party’s magazine: “The threat of Islamic terror in India is rising. It is time to counter the same with Hindu terror. Hindu suicide squads should be readied to ensure the existence of Hindu society and to protect the nation.”

Observers say the fact that the police have arrested the alleged cell members amid considerable political pressure suggests the growing professionalism of its security forces. “It’s the first Hindu cell and it’s the first time Hindus have been shackled and taken to jail,” said Professor Dipankar Gupta, a sociologist at Delhi’s Jawarlahal Nehru University. “I’m quite pleased with the way the police have done their jobs.”

Former Cuban president Fidel Castro says al-Qaeda terrorists have been engineered in order to advance the Bush administration's agenda.

In an essay published on Sunday, Castro said the terrorist group "was born from the empire's own entrails", using the term "empire" to refer to the United States.

After the Sept. 11 attacks, the Bush administration vowed to capture al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, who has reportedly taken responsibility for the deadly attacks on US soils.

"[Al-Qaeda] is a typical example of an enemy that the hegemonic power dangles in a place of its choosing where it needs to justify its actions, as it has done throughout its history, fabricating enemies and attacks destined to strengthen its plans of domination," the former Cuban leader argued.

According to Castro, the American public has been mislead by the US government about the real extent of the terrorist attacks in 2001. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has also suggested that Washington could have been somehow involved in the planning of the attacks.

In the aftermath of the attacks, the White House launched the 'War on Terror' in a bid to disband al-Qaeda. While many civilians have been killed since the 2001 invasions of Afghanistan, followed by the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the US has failed to achieve its objectives in the region.

A Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) program called "Operation Cyclone" is reportedly responsible for the creation of the terrorist group, when the CIA funded native Afghan militants in the conflict with the Soviet Union.

The al-Qaeda leader is reportedly planning a new terror attack against the US as President-elect Barack Obama takes office from the incumbent president, George W. Bush.

Earlier this month, a source close to the group claimed that Bin Laden is supervising preparations for another attack which will be far greater than those of 9/11.

US Vice President-elect Joe Biden had warned in October that Obama would face an international crisis early in his presidency.

BLOGS.FOXNEWS Sat, 25 Oct 2008

It had to happen.

Less than two weeks before we vote for a new president, a white woman says a black man attacked her, then scarred her face, and says there was a political motive for it.

Ashley Todd, a 20-year-old white volunteer for John McCain’s presidential campaign, says she was mugged at an ATM machine in Pittsburgh (my hometown) by a big black man. She further says he threw her down, then disfigured her by carving the letter “B” into her face with a sharp implement when he saw that she supported McCain, not Barack Obama.

Part of the appeal of, and the unspoken tension behind, Senator Obama’s campaign is his transformational status as the first African-American to win a major party’s presidential nomination.

That does not mean that he has erased the mutual distrust between black and white Americans, and this incident could become a watershed event in the 11 days before the election.

If Ms. Todd’s allegations are proven accurate, some voters may revisit their support for Senator  Obama, not because they are racists (with due respect to Rep. John Murtha), but because they suddenly feel they do not know enough about the Democratic nominee.

If the incident turns out to be a hoax, Senator McCain’s quest for the presidency is over, forever linked to race-baiting.

For Pittsburgh, a city that has done so much to shape American history over the centuries, another moment of truth is at hand.

BBC Fri, 24 Oct 2008
The trial of 86 people accused of being part of an ultra-nationalist plot to provoke a military coup is due to resume in Turkey.

"The Ergenekon terror organisation is known as the 'deep state' in our country and organises many bloody activities aiming to create an atmosphere of serious crisis, chaos, anarchy and terror,"

Its purpose, he says, is "to weaken the country's administration [and] justify an illegal intervention against the government."

The prosecutor links Ergenekon to the murder of a secularist judge in 2006 and a grenade attack on the Istanbul office of Cumhuriyet newspaper, a publication known for its opposition to the religious-minded government.

Previously ascribed to an Islamic fundamentalist, the attacks are now described as the first stage of Ergenekon's campaign to stoke divisions and unrest.

Two retired generals have been charged in connection with the case, although their indictment has not been released yet.

Their arrest is unprecedented in a country that has seen four military coups and whose generals have long been a powerful political force.

One of the central pieces of evidence in the case, a document entitled "Lobi", describes Ergenekon as operating "under the Turkish armed forces".

Liberal commentators say the prosecutor has a duty to use this trial for a thorough investigation of the claim, to root-out any rogue elements within Turkey's security forces.

"In Europe, these 'Gladios' or counter-guerrilla organisations were discovered and removed from the state and the army. In Turkey, we never confronted them and what they were doing," says Oral Calislar, a writer for Radikal liberal newspaper.

Many Turks talk darkly of a "deep state" - groups they suspect of links to the security forces since the 1950s, formed to carry out illegal activities, including assassinations, to "protect" the republic.

Their alleged crimes include the murder of many prominent writers and intellectuals and the disappearance and killing of many Kurds during the Kurdish conflict in the 1990s.

First confirmation of those suspicions came in 1996, when the passengers in a fatal car crash in Susurluk revealed clear links between state security officers, organised criminals and politicians.

It emerged that a senior police chief, a prominent MP and a wanted assassin were travelling in the car together. The assassin - a nationalist militant - was carrying government-backed diplomatic ID.

The main perceived threat to the state at that time was Kurdish separatism. Earlier, communism was the danger. Today, it is political Islam and the AK Party.

"I believe there are so many connections with the army. We want to discover all of them with this trial," says Mr Calislar. "We will fight for that because we want to live in a democratic society."

Turkey's democratic transition is what Can Paker believes this case is all about.

The head of the liberal Tesev think-tank describes a power struggle between Turkey's old elite - the civil and military bureaucracy - and a rising urban middle-class. He sees the threat of political Islam as a weapon in the struggle against the AKP and its electorate and suggests Ergenekon emerged from that.

CRAIGMURRAY Wed, 10 Sep 2008

I have been worrying about the serious deterioration of civil liberties in the UK for five years now, but a small incident last night convinced me we are living in a country that must be classified as "Not free". I was travelling to the theatre on the tube, and the large majority of passengers were shrouded by copies of either London Lite or the London Paper. Some thirty copies of each banner headline screamed shrilly its message of fear through the train: "Five Suicide Bombers on the Loose in London!" "Jet Terror Plot!" "Terror Jury Holiday Farce Resulted in Acquittals!"

The propaganda, which reflected uncritically the briefing the Security Services and Home Office have been manically pumping out since the non-existence of the "Bigger than 9/11" jet plot was confirmed, was so stark and so divorced from any connection to the truth, that I am convinced we are already in effect living in a totalitarian state where the government controls the population through fear with brutal efficiency and with absolutely no regard to the truth. The government had contrived to turn a major blow for its "War on Terror" scaremongering into a vehicle to ramp up that scaremongering.

The Lite told of there still being bombers around from the "Jet Terror Plot" and gave no indication whatsoever that the jury had decided the jet plot did not exist. Indeed it claimed shamelessly that the three terrorists convicted of conspiracy to murder had been planning to bring down planes - a direct lie.

The London Paper was still more worrying, because it put detail into the line the odious security service spokesman Frank "Goebbels" Gardner has been pumping out on the BBC: juries are unreliable. It said that the failure to convict in the trial was due to interruptions for a holiday for the jurors and because of an injury to a juror in a golf accident. The clear trend of the briefing coming from the government is towards the abolition of jury trials in terrorist cases: Diplock courts.

Meantime in London two men are on trial for "terrorism" because they attended a demonstration at the Uzbek Embassy against the hideous Uzbek regime, at which red paint was thrown at the Embassy to symbolise the blood of Karimov's many thousands of victims. Such protest as paint-throwing should, I think, be illegal, but given events like the Andijan massacre of many hundreds of peaceful demonstrators, I have huge sympathy for those who undertake civil disobedience in the Uzbek case. It has nothing to do with terrorism, but under the notorious Section 58 of the Terrorism Act there is real danger of conviction and heavy sentences.

These are critical times: all good men and women must fight hard against the closing in of the system upon us.

A top Turkish prosecutor has brought charges against 86 people allegedly involved in a coup plot.

Aykut Cengiz Engin said those charged included leading figures from the army, business and the secular press.

The charges follow speculation about a shadowy group of hardline nationalists determined to act in what they see as defence of Turkey's secular values.

On Monday prosecutor Mr Engin filed charges at an Istanbul court against 86 people, 48 of whom are already in custody.

"The indictment covers crimes such as forming an armed terror group... and attempting to overthrow the government by force," Mr Engin said.

A court must decide within two weeks whether to open the case against the 86 suspects.

They are accused of plotting to create chaos in Turkey, provoking secularist anger and a military coup that would topple the government.

The indictment referred to the killing of a judge in a 2006 armed attack on a court, and the bombing of a secularist newspaper.

There have been several coups by the Turkish military.

Dozens of suspects have been arrested over the past year, following the discovery of a cache of hand grenades at the house of a retired army officer.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has promised to crack down on the so-called Ergenekon group - an alleged "deep state" network of renegade ultra-nationalists from the military, police, business and press.

Prosecutor Engin said the 86 charged on Monday include at least one former general, along with journalists, academicians and businessmen.

He said an additional indictment was being prepared against a dozen others, including two senior retired generals arrested earlier this month.

INFOWARS Fri, 27 Jun 08
Anti-war MP George Galloway has accused London Metropolitan Police of engaging in "a deliberate conspiracy to bring about scenes of violent disorder" during President George W. Bush's visit to the UK last week.

In addition to this information, other demonstrators have described similar incidents with strange looking protesters.

It has been common practice at previous demonstrations for authorities to employ police or special forces to intentionally infiltrate peaceful protests and cause violence.

Last year peaceful protestors at the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) summit in Montebello captured sensational video of hired agent provocateurs attempting to incite rioting and turn the protest violent, only to encounter brave resistance from real protest leaders.

Quebec provincial police later admitted that their officers disguised themselves as demonstrators during the protest at the North American leaders summit in Montebello, Que.

In Seattle in 1999 at the World Trade Organisation meeting, the authorities declared a state of emergency, imposed curfews and resorted to nothing short of police state tactics in response to a small minority of hostile black bloc hooligans. In his film Police State 2, Alex Jones covered the fact that the police allowed the black bloc to run riot in downtown Seattle while they concentrated on preventing the movement of peaceful protestors. The film presents evidence that the left-wing anarchist groups are actually controlled by the state and used to demonize peaceful protesters.

At WTO protests in Genoa 2001 a protestor was killed after being shot in the head and run over twice by a police vehicle. The Italian Carabinere also later beat on peaceful protestors as they slept, and even tortured some, at the Diaz School. It later emerged that the police fabricated evidence against the protesters, claiming they were anarchist rioters, to justify their actions. Some Carabiniere officials have since come forward to say they knew of infiltration of the black bloc anarchists, that fellow officers acted as agent provocateurs.

At the Free Trade Area of Americas protests in Miami in late November 2003, more provocateuring was evident. The United Steelworkers of America, calling for a congressional investigation, stated that the police intentionally caused violence and arrested and charged hundreds of peaceful protestors. The USWA suggested that billions of dollars supposedly slated for Iraq reconstruction funds are actually being used to subsidize ‘homeland repression’ in America.

DAILYMAIL Wed, 25 Jun 2008
Looming over us ominously was a heavy security presence: riot police, armed officers, even snipers on rooftops.

These days it appears permissible to wave a gun at Britons exercising their democratic rights.

As a throng of protesters built up by the barriers, an extremely animated demonstrator in a white T-shirt caught my eye.

He was near the front screaming abuse at the police and trying to get a friend further back to join him. The second man sheepishly refused his encouragements to edge forward.

The man in the T-shirt was tall, well-built and handsome, smiling but with a hint of menace. He pushed aside children and elderly people.

He continued to shout slogans such as: 'Pigs Out.'

On his back was a black rucksack and he carried a professional-looking camera with a large telephoto lens. Hardly the sort of kit for a few snaps of his day out.

My friends and I, standing a few rows back, asked him a couple of times to calm down, but he ignored us.

I wondered why I was drawn to him. Was it his dark good looks or was I worried for the safety of my 70-year-old friend and children nearby?

Then it dawned on me. I had met this man at a party. I tapped him gently on the shoulder and said: 'Have we met before?'

Instantly he recognised me. 'Hi, how are you? It's really nice to see you here.'

My puzzlement grew. This chap wasn't really the sort you'd expect to see shouting abuse at police officers at an anti-war demo. He was, after all, a policeman himself - and a high-ranking one at that.

I'd met the police inspector at a party around last Christmas. The local mayor was there, along with councillors from other parties and journalists. I'd been asked along by a friend.

He had a bolshie charm, was cocky and a little manipulative. He was also highly entertaining, bragging about his work in the police and how important he was.

I remained bemused about his presence at the demo. I asked if he would send me copies of his demo photos. He replied: 'No, they're to put on my bedroom wall.'

I then casually asked why he was shouting anti-police slogans.

'Funny you chanting that,' I said, 'when you're a policeman.'

They don't have my sort in the police, love,' he said camply, so I would assume he was referring to being gay. A few seconds later, he melted into the crowd.

I wondered whether he was at the demo undercover, deliberately whipping up trouble that he could capture on camera. That would then be used to malign anti-war protesters as dangerous and violent subversives.

Equally, he could have been legitimately monitoring the crowds, but again he surely would have been quieter.

I realise there are times when the police need to work undercover if they suspect a crime is being committed. But that is quite different to going into a crowd as an agitator to create disruption.

I went home from the demo feeling furious and did a little research into him. It turns out that he is on more than nodding terms with controversy.

I also found out that he is no mere rank-and-file officer.

Stop The War has organised about 20 marches in the past, all of which have been peaceful. This is the first where there has been violence.

I cannot say this man was responsible for the trouble, but I saw him try his best to urge the crowd forward.

It is hard not to despair at the remarks of the Metropolitan Police's Deputy Assistant Commissioner Chris Allison

But however you look at it, the thuggish behaviour of the man I saw is hardly what you expect of someone employed to protect the public.

Our civil liberties are being eroded daily. The likes of this man are playing a part in destroying the few we have left.

If our security relies on idiots like him creating their own evidence to reinforce fear, who can we trust?

Following George Galloway's letter to the Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair complaining about the policing of last Sunday's Stop the War demonstration in Whitehall, the Respect MP will now be meeting, early next week, a senior Met officer who has been charged with investigating the complaint.

"I and the anti-war movement intend to pursue this," says Galloway. "I'm pleased to have secured this meeting, but it is far from the end of the matter."
BLOGSPOT Tue, 24 Jun 08
It is just over one week since the Metropolitan (Met) police used batons to stop a peaceful protest against US president George W. Bush. Yet again, we head back to the The Mail on Sunday for an article by playwright Yasmin Whittaker-Khan: Was 'friend' who yelled abuse at police on anti-war demo a stooge or a thug, asks writer (article also on Stop The War website).

According to the article, while on the protest, Yasmin bumped into a known senior police officer, now looking somewhat like a press photographer wielding a larger and expensive piece of equipment, who shouted, “Pigs out” and enticed others to the front of the police-protestor clashes.

On that afternoon, I too had an incident that made me, despite the incredibly cramped and crushing conditions, switch on the camera to grab a clear shot of the perpetrator.

The man, who forcefully barged past me to get to a position right in front of me, knocking into a woman and others at the same time, wore a black shirt, black fleece and a black baseball cap. He was late 30s early 40s.

Once in position there he looked nervous and completely out of place. I spotted a walkie-talkie sticking out of his right pocket. He too, like the account of Yasmin Whittaker-Khan, seemed to be carrying a large and expensive-looking camera and at first impressions looked like a photojournalist.

After barging into me and the woman, I confronted him, asking: “What the hell do think you’re doing?” He replied by saying something like, “don’t even think about it, pal.”

From then on, until I was distracted by batons raining down on protestors heads, he moved further into the protest, to stand close to Respect MP George Galloway, still looking nervous and edgy.

He did not participate in the protest, in fact he seemed visually offended by the protestors, and at no time did he seem interested in the police clashes, which, at that time, every other journalist was pointing their cameras at, snapping vigorously. In short, he stood out like a sore thumb and did not belong there.

But still, the question is laid down: what would the police and state gain from inciting violence or provocation during this protest?

My last article asked what the state response would be to two recent anti-war protests turning to unrest and even violence. For one thing, in the eyes of an authority with a set political agenda, these recent incidents only highlight the need for the current restrictions on protest and civil rights and the impending further laws to be brought in under the 2008 Counter Terrorism Act.

The sceptic would claim if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to worry about. But as the last eight years has seen, even before 9/11, despite the UK government assurances this would never happen, the terrorism and other laws have been used against peaceful protestors, to curb military veterans speaking out and to curtail demonstration and the everyday public life.

The 2005 Serious Organised Crime and Police Act (SOCPA) banned unauthorised protest within a kilometre of the seat of UK democracy, the Houses of Parliament. Again, despite abject government assurances this law was solely created to protect parliament from terrorists hiding in a demonstration, “SOCPA zones” started popping up all over the UK. At military bases, nuclear installations and even animal research laboratories. And then “free speech zones” appeared - insinuating free speech was illegal outside those zones.

Now the 2008 Counter Terrorism Bill looks set to remove the need for a court order to seize any material considered “suspicious” or evidence by police in any situation. That includes legitimate working journalists, for instance, in a protest, a protest where police and protestors clash. A protest like the when London welcomed George W Bush.

Military sources in Iraq say the US has drawn up plans to enable the use of Iraqi soil to strike any country it considers a 'threat'.

The current Washington-proposed Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) will allow US troops stationed in Iraq to attack any country the White House deems to be a 'threat against world stability' or believes to be 'acting against Iraqi or American interests', the Gulf News cited unnamed Iraqi military sources as saying.

The US currently hopes to sign a SOFA agreement with Iraq to give legal basis to a long-term military and political presence in the oil-rich country after December 31 when the UN resolution defining its status expires.

The revelation of the deal follows widespread speculation that US President George W. Bush has joined forces with Israel to invade yet another country in the already volatile Middle East.

Analysts believe consistent with the trend of US takeovers in recent years - creating an enemy and preparing the public for war -, the increasing number of White House allegations against Iran signals its intent to attack the country in the near future.

They further maintain that the lack of US evidence in support of its allegations against the Islamic Republic is reminiscent of their war cries prior to the invasion of Iraq.

Washington accuses Tehran of providing arms to Iraqi militiamen and running a covert nuclear weapons program.

This is while Tehran has held talks with US officials to restore security and stability to Iraq and says Washington's allegations have no basis in reality.

Regarding its nuclear program, Iran insists its nuclear drive is aimed at generating electricity for a growing population and that weapons of mass destruction in its defense doctrine.

Palestinians now being blamed for the 1988 Scotland Lockerbie Jet Bomb

It doesn't get any better than this for certain elements bent on starting up another war in the ME, this time with Israel bombing the hell out of Occupied Palestine, Lebanon and Syria while their favorite group of mercenaries, the US military, turns Iran into another shocked and awed country.

Various powers that be had Libya in their sights for the frame-up and didn't stop until Gaddafi was neutered and brought to heel to American interests, especially some oil companies.

With Gaddafi emasculated, it was time to change the game, by pointing the blame at another target, Palestine.

Except that at the time the original story broke, back in 2002, the neocons and zionists were in preparations to destroy one of Israel's "existential" enemies, Iraq and were directing their mighty influences to help shove America into invading Iraq.

But that was then and now, Israel, still licking its wounds and smarting from getting its ass kicked by a small group of ragtag freedom fighters, Hezbollah, is now looking for some plausible excuse to go back into Lebanon and to further smash Occupied Palestine into smithereens and with the stories being pumped to the media framing Palestinians and by extension, Palestine, for the Lockerbie bombing, Israel now has the phony evidence they need to start another ME war, with the added bonus of having the U.S. taking on another of Israel's "existential" enemies, Iran.

Look for the fireworks to start this Summer.

The Bush administration is planning to carry out air strikes against Iran by August and two U.S. Senators have already been briefed on the attack according to a report in the highly respected Asia Times, which cites a former assistant secretary of state and U.S. career diplomat as its source.

Muhammad Cohen's article claims that Senator Diane Feinstein, Democrat of California, and Senator Richard Lugar, Republican of Indiana, were informed of the attack plan and planned to voice their opposition to it in a New York Times editorial in an attempt to offset the air strike. The editorial is yet to materialize.

According to Cohen' source, the Neo-Cons believe that they can perpetrate a "limited" air strike aimed more at sending a message than destroying Iran's supposed nuclear program, but the consequences of such a move are likely to provoke a massive Iranian retaliation, as President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has consistently warned.

The impending invasion of Iran has been on the grapevine for the past three summers running and many are beginning to fear that the "boy who cried wolf" mentality is starting to discredit those who repeatedly warn of the coming attack. However, rhetoric has notably heated in the past few months.

During Bush's recent visit to Israel, an Israeli official claimed that a senior member in Bush's entourage had stated in a closed meeting that Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney had resolved to attack Iran before they left office.

Prominent political figures such as Zbigniew Brzezinski and Gary Hart have warned that an attack on Iran won't arrive absent a staged provocation or a new Gulf of Tonkin style incident.

During a 2007 Senate Foreign Relations Committee meeting, Brzezinski alluded to the potential for the Bush administration to manufacture a false flag Gulf of Tonkin type incident in describing a "plausible scenario for a military collision with Iran," which would revolve around "some provocation in Iraq or a terrorist act in the US blamed on Iran, culminating in a ‘defensive’ US military action against Iran that plunges a lonely America into a spreading and deepening quagmire eventually ranging across Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.”

In an open letter to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, former Senator and current CFR member Hart warned the Iranian President that he would be, "Well advised to read the history of the sinking of the U.S.S. Maine in Havana harbor in 1898 and the history of the Gulf of Tonkin in 1964," two false flag events manufactured by the U.S. itself to kick start a war.

SOTT Wed, 23 Apr 2008
Ever since the 9/11 attacks, Sott.net, along with many others commentators (including US government officials), have repeatedly stated that "al-qaeda" is a fabricated enemy. That it is used to justify the Ziocon's military rampage though the Middle East while simultaneously terrorising the folks back home.

In the past 7 years the world public has repeatedly been treated to bogus missives from "al-Qaeda leaders" that strangely echo the Islamophobic claims of the leaders of the Western world.

Every time a member of the US or Israeli government expounded on the "Muslim terror threat to freedom and democracy everywhere", soon afterwards "al-Qaeda" obligingly popped up with a new video or statement in which they threatened freedom and democracy.

As the massive holes in the US government's official story of the 9/11 attacks continue to widen, and sites like Sott.net continue to point to the real culprits in Tel Aviv and Washington DC, disembodied internet voices that US government officials "believe to be that of Osama bin laden", set the record straight and claim responsibility. In spite of such strenuous efforts to fool the entire world, fewer and fewer people are buying the terror hysteria, and recently the desperation on the part of the Ziocons has begun to show.

On April 22, the CIA/Mossad chose to have Mr. Magoo stand-in and "al-Qaeda number 2" "al-Zawahiri", do something which, until now, was almost unthinkable.

At this late stage in the war-on-terror farce, anything that comes from "al-Qaeda" can safely be taken, almost word for word, as the policy, intentions or desires of the Ziocons. From its original role as an excuse to attack Muslim nations of the Middle East, today "al-Qaeda" is being used as an actual arm of the US/Israeli/British military-industrial complex. With "al-Zawahiri's" recent verbal attacks on Iran, it is quite possible that the US, British and Israeli military and civilian intelligence agencies will begin to stage large-scale attacks within Iran (or on Iranian assets in the Middle East) and have "al-Zawahiri", in the form of some disembodied voice on the internet, claim responsibility.

From a manufactured war on Islamic terrorism to an equally manufactured war between Islamic peoples of the Middle East, and all of it hinged upon a truly outrageous fantasy called "al-Qaeda".

As most of you know, the Government of Israel attacked our ship in international waters on June 8, 1967. On this bright, sunny day our ship had been positively identified as American and friendly. This very fact has been repeated by our attackers, Israel. They knew we were there but around 1:00 they forgot about us. This was the excuse given, that they accidentally took us off their war table, like we just vanished into thin air.
